HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Min 2026 01 27 MOSES LAKE CITY COUNCIL Tuesday, January 27, 2026 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Moses Lake City Council was called to order at 6:31 p.m. by Mayor Swartz in the Council Chambers of the Civic Center with audio remote access. Special notices for remote attendance and citizen comment were posted on the meeting agenda. ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Swartz; Deputy Mayor Myers; Council Members Lombardi, Skaug, Fancher, and Graves. Council Member Davis attended remotely. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Columbia Basin Herald Senior Reporter Cheryl Schweizer led the Flag Salute. AGENDA APPROVAL Action taken: Deputy Mayor Myers moved to approve the Agenda as presented, second by Council Member Fancher. The motion carried 7 – 0. PRESENTATIONS New Fire Captain and Lieutenant – Fire Chief Art Perillo introduced Captain Lynn Dodd followed by her son, Michael, performing the celebratory pinning of her badge. Chief Perillo then introduced Lieutenant Mike Miner who received his pining from his wife, Gwen. Hansen Road Overpass Repair, WSDOT Regional Administrator Chris Keifenheim – Chris Kiefenheim from the Washington State Department of Transportation shared a slide deck to illustrate updates on their findings for repair or replacement options, potential impacts, and funding limitations that have been assessed since the Hanson Road Bridge closed on January 17. Seahawk’s Week of the 12’s Proclamation – Mayor Swartz read a proclamation naming the week of February 2 - 8 as “the 12’s” in support of the Seattle Seahawks advancing to Super Bowl LX. CITIZEN’S COMMUNICATION Hansen Road Overpass – Joshua Cooper and Don Rogers, Moses Lake, asked questions about the bridge closure to WSDOT Representative Chris Keifenheim. Ice Arena Repairs – Scott Freidig and Travis Shearer thanked City Council and staff for their prompt attention to keeping the ice rink operations open. CONSENT AGENDA #1 a. Fire Recovery Fire Scene Mitigation Contract Action taken: Deputy Mayor Myers moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented, second by Council Member Lombardi. The motion carried 7 – 0. OLD BUSINESS #2 Ice Arena Temporary Chiller Update Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Director Doug Coutts provided an update on costs to extend the temporary chiller rental in order for the Hockey League to complete their league. He will check and report back on insurance coverage to include cost of refrigerant. STAFF REPORTS State lobbyist help with bridge funding from legislators, notice that 10 of the 21 Council Agreements developed during the Council Retreat last June have been completed, status of upcoming neighborhood and code enforcement meetings, ongoing legislative advocacy for water and transportation issues, as well as a report on the upcoming financial sustainability process that includes community input. CITY COUNCIL MEMBER REPORTS Update on the Economic Development Committee retreat preparations, Port of Moses Lake partnership with the museum on photo preservation, the Port is becoming a permanent military training facility, Stoke space testing expansion, visits to Olympia to engage with legislators, Grant County Homeless Task Force upcoming meeting, Martin Luther King, Jr Day celebration, Fire Chief Perillo attendance at Rotary Club, North Central Technical Alliance STEM nights at local elementary schools, Deputy Mayor Myers appointment to Chair for Grant Transit Authority Board, Association of Grant County Cities and Towns meeting in Quincy on January 28.
