AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 16.48 OF THE MOSES LAKE MUNICIPAL
CODE ENTITLED "FIRE HYDRANTS"
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOSES LAKE,WASHINGTON ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.Chapter 16.48 ofthe Moses Lake Municipal Code entitled"Fire Hydrants"is amended as follows:
16.48.085 Ownership:
A. City owned fire hydrants are those fire hydrants that are located within right-of-way or a
municipal easement,provided that the fire hydrant has been accepted by the CityCouncil.
B.Privately owned fire hydrants are those fire hydrants that are not described inSection A.All
maintenance,repairs, and operations on private fire hydrants are the owner's responsibility.
16.48.090 Fire HydrantTestinq and Maintenance:City owned fire hydrantsshallbe subject toperiodictesting
and inspection bythe Fire Department.When a deficient cityowned fire hydrant is discovered,the
Fire Department will provide written notification to the City's Water Division that the fire hydrant
needs to be repaired. The City's Water Division shall repair the hydrant, place itback inservice,
and notify the FireDepartment ofthe repairs within thirty (30)calendar days fromthe date on the
notice. Private fire hydrants shall be inspected and tested annually by the fire hydrant owner.
Inspection and test results shall be recorded on a cityform and then sent to the Fire Department
byJuly 1 of each year. Private fire hydrants that need repaired shall have the necessary repairs
performed within thirty (30)calendar days ofthe timethatthe deficiencyisdiscovered. Privatefire
hydrants shall be painted red and repainted every three (3) years.
Section 2. Thisordinance shalltake effectand be in force five (5)days after its passage and publication of
its summary as provided by law.
