AN ORDINANCEAMENDING CHAPTER1.09 OF THE MOSESLAKEMUNICIPAL
CODE ENTITLED"INTER-RACIALCOMMISSION FOR HUMAN RIGHL'S".
THECITYCOUNCIL OF THE CITY 0F MOSES LAKEDO ORDAINAS FOLLOWS:
Section 1..Chapter 1.09 of the Moses Lake Municipal Code is amended as follows:
1.09.010 Membership
The Inter-racial Commission for Human Rights,which will have a minimum of seven (7)members and
a maximum of thirteen (13)members,shall be composed of citizens from within the Greater Moses
Lake area.The Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor,subject to confirmation by a.majority
of the City Council.
1.09.013 Duration of Apootntment
All appointments to the Commission shall be for two (2)year terms,except that for original oppointees
approximately one-half shall be appointed for a one year term.Vacancies shall be filled for unexpired
terms in the same manner as for original appointments.The mayor may remove any member with confirm-
ation of the City Council.All members shall serve without compensation.
1.09.018 Rules of Procedure
The Commission may adopt such rules of procedure as are necessary to accomplish the duties prescribed
i in paragraph 1.09.020.The Mayor shall select the Commission Chairman and the Mayor,any member
of the City Council,or the City Manager,shall have the privilege of attending any meeting of the
Commission.
1.09.020 Duties
The duties of such Commission shall be:to carry on a public education program and solicit the coopera-
.tion of individuals and organizations in the City in promoting equality and understanding among all
citizens;to study and investigate problems arising in the City which may result in tensions or discrim-
ination because of race,color,religion or national origin;to report períodîcally to the City Council onsuchstudiesandinvestigationsandtomakerecommendationsforappropriateremedialactionwhen
indicated and the Commission may establish and supervise a municipal listing service.to assist minor••
ity members of the community in fînding a home of their choice within their ability to pay.
Section 2.The provisions of Section 23,ordinanceNo.379 are hereby waived.This Ordinance shall
he read only once before its passage and shall take effect immediately after passage.
