3588RESOLUTION NO.3588 A RESOLUTION RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO.3584 AND ESTABLISHING A PROCEDURE TO CHOOSE A MAYOR AND DEPUTY MAYOR RECITALS: 1.The Cityof Moses Lake,as an optional code city,is governed by RCW 35A.13. 2. RCW35A.13.030 states as follows:"Biennially at the firstmeeting ofthe newcouncilthe members thereof shall choose a chair from among their number unless the chair is elected pursuant to RCW 35A.13.033. The chair of the Council shall have the titleof Mayorand shall preside at meetings of the Council." 3. RCW 35A.13.035 states as follows: "Biennially at the first meeting of a new council, or periodically, the members thereof, by majorityvote, may designate one of their number as mayor pro tempore or deputy mayor forsuch period as the council mayspecify, to serve in the absence or temporary disability ofthe mayor;. . ." 4.Moses Lake Municipal Code 2.08.025 states as follows:"Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor: Biennially, at the first meeting of the new City Council, in even numbered years, the CityCouncil members shall choose a chairman and vice-chairman of the CityCouncil from among their number.The chairman shall have the title of Mayor and the vice-chairman shall have the title of Deputy Mayor." RESOLVED: 1.Each member of the City Council shall be permitted to nominate one (1)person who has previously served for a minimum of two (2)years on the Council,and nominations shall not require a second.A nominee who wishes to decline the nomination shall so state at this time.Nominations are then closed. 2.The election for Mayor Pro Tempore shall beconducted by the newly-elected Mayor and nominations shall be made in the manner previously described for the election of the Mayor.Candidates for Mayor Pro Tempore shall have previously served on the Council for a minimum of one (1)year.
