RESOLUTION NO.2048
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF IMPLEMENTING A 1/10TH OF 1%COUNTY-WIDE
SALES TAX AS ALLOWED BY RCW 82.14.340
Recitals:
1.Crime in Grant County is on the rise.
2. Increased crime places greater financial burdens on Grant County and its communities,small
jurisdictions in particular.
3. Recently passed legislation exacerbates the financial woes of communities by placing the
financial burden of prosecution and incarceration for misdemeanors committed within their
respective cities back on the citing agencies.
4.The Legislature,through RCW 82.14.340,makes available 1/10th of 1% of sales tax to coun
ties for criminal justice activities.
Resolved:
1.The City of Moses Lake supports the Grant County Commissioners in the implementation of
the 1/10th of 1%sales tax, as allowed, and as may be required by law, to provide funds the
cities and towns in Grant County may have to pay for prosecuting and incarcerating individuals
who commit misdemeanors in the cities and towns of GrantCounty.
2.Additionally,the City of Moses Lake requests that GrantCounty recognize that the county will
be receiving most or all of the proceeds of the 1/10 of 1% in sales taxes which may be im
posed with the cities and towns of Grant County receiving very little,if any, of the taxes.
