A RESOLUTION OF THE MOSES LAKE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING
THE CAMPAIGN TO KEEP THE USS MISSOURI IN KITSAP COUNTY
RECITALS:
1. The USS Missouri is an historic maritime battleship having hosted the site of the surrender by the
Japanese to the Allied forces,September 2,1945;
2.The USS Missouri has become an integral part of the Bremerton and Kitsap communities during
its many years moored in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard;
3.Thousands of Bremerton and Kitsap County citizens either served aboard the USS Missouri or
worked aboard the ship during maintenance and repair,in both wartime and peacetime;
4.The USS Missouri has become a major tourist attraction in Bremerton and stands as a proud
symbol of this community's role in the world-wide peacekeeping efforts;
5. The USS Missouri has now been put on the inactive roles by the Department of Defense with the
ultimate goal of relocating the ship from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to a community that will
embrace its national historic value for its transformation into an historic museum;
6. The Bremerton City Council continues to explore an extensive proposal to redevelop the
Bremerton downtown waterfront,the USS Missouri will serve as a strong economic and cultural
accompaniment to this vision;
7. The Bremerton City Council is an ardent advocate of efforts that enrich the community's naval
heritage and sense of cohesion,which is embodied by the USS Missouri.
RESOLVED:
1. The Moses Lake City Council in passing this resolution supports the campaign to keep the USS
Missouri in Bremerton,Washington.
Adopted by the City Council and signed by its Mayor on October 24,1995.
