A RESOLUTION EXTENDING RECOGNITION,APPRECIATION,AND
COMMENDATION TO COACH JERRY THAUT AND THE MOSES LAKE
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL CHIEFS.
WHEREAS,Coach Jerry Thaut guided his baseball Chiefs,for the second
year in a row,to the Big Nine Baseball Championship;and
WHEREAS,for the first time ever,the Chiefs won the Region IV Title;
and
WHEREAS,the Chiefs earned a trip to the Kingdome by defeating Renton
High School in the state semifinals;and
WHEREAS,on June 6,1981,the Chiefs defeated Wilson High School of
Tacoma to be crowned the AAA State Champions;and
WHEREAS,in the pre-season,league schedule,and tournament competition,
the baseball Chiefs posted a record-breaking season record at 27 wins and
two losses,which included a new school record of 21 consecutive vic
tories;and
WHEREAS,the Moses Lake High School Baseball Chiefs excited the
community and brought to the High School,as well as the City of Moses
Lake,statewide recognition,distinction,and admiration,on and off the
baseball diamond;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Moses
Lake,Washington,as follows:
Section 1.The City of Moses Lake extends sincere commendation and
congratulations to Coach Jerry Thaut,seniors Roy Adame,Gilbert
Alvarado,Mike Bernsen,Zef Castillo,Ruben Garza,Joe Gonzales,Kerry
Heilig,Korey Heilig,Bill Karwacki,Rey Pichardo,George Rios,Dan
Smith,Israel Vela;juniors Paul Garza,and Cesar Rios;Assistant Coach
Don Price and Team Manager,Ernie Suazo,for their achievements through
the 1981 baseball season.
Section 2.The Moses Lake City Council,on behalf of the citizens,
appreciates the recognition brought to us by the Baseball Chiefs,and is
proud of their accomplishments and distinction.
