A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MOSES LAKE URGING
THE RESTORATION OF PARTIAL PASSENGER SERVICE
THROUGH THE NORTHERN PART OF THE STATE OF
WASHINGTON.
WHEREAS,there exists a serious transportation problem for the people of
the northern part of the State of Washington in that since the advent of the
Amtrack System,no railroad passenger service is available,and
WHEREAS,such problem becomes acute during the winter months when travel
by roadway is either impossible or very dangerous,and air service is either
completely curtailed or extremely irregular;and
WHEREAS,the northern route through Odessa,Ephrata,Wenatchee,and
Seattle is approximately 12 0 miles shorter and 4j hours quicker between
Spokane and Seattle,which would not only benefit the persons in the upper
Columbia Basin-Wenatchee-Big Bend area,but would also benefit the popuia
tion of both Seattle and Spokane,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Moses Lake:
That the Interstate Commerce Commission and the Directors of Amtrack
System be urged to consider restoration of regularly scheduled passenger
rail service between Spokane and Seattle via the former Burlington Northern
Route.
PASSED by the City Council of Moses Lake,Washington and APPROVED
by its Mayor,this 22nd day of February ,1972.
