WHEREAS,The members of the '18th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron have volunteered
to participate in an organized rescue alert program for providing emergency helicopter evacua
tion service for outlying regions within a 150 to 200 mile radius of Spokane,and
WHEREAS,In pursuit of humanitarian mission of rescue and recovery,the Commander,48th
ARRSq,FaJrchlld Air Force Base,is making available one helicopter for the sole purpose of
supporting community emergency situations where life threatening emergency exists which
cannot be handled by land ambulance,and
WHEREAS,the advantages and uses of the helicopter as an emergency evacuation vehicle are
obvious:Speed.With an alert response,time averaging ten minutes and a speed of over
120 mph,traveling a straight line route,the helicopter will provide a most expeditious
means of medical evacuation,and
WHEREAS,the sponsors are attempting to gain federal recognition of the program with the des
ignation of MAST -Military Aid to Safety and Transportation -as soon as possible.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOSES LAKE
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.The City recognizes the merit of this program and offers its backing to the spon
sor for their desired recognition.
Sec£ionJL That a copy of this resolution be directed to the federal representatives of
this area as a means of expressing the City's support.
