RESOLUTION NO.640
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A REDUCTION OF STREET LIGHTING AND
ENCOURAGING BUSINESSES AND CITIZENS OF THE COMMUNITY TO
EFFECT A VOLUNTARY REDUCTION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION,TO
ALLEVIATE A POTENTIALLY CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY.
WHEREAS,it has been called to the attention of the City Council of the City
of Moses Lake that the Pacific Northwest region in experiencing one of the
lowest stream run-offs in 94 years,and
WHEREAS,unless there is a drastic improvement in this critical water situation
tO in the next 3 months,the region will be 13 billion kilowatt hours short of
CD electricity,and

WHEREAS,all Pacific Northwest utilities have urged residential,commercial and
industrial customers to conserve on electrical energy during the months ahead,
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Moses Lake:
1.That the City Manager be authorized to effect a reduction in
street lighting in accordance with a plan approved by the City
Council at their regular meeting of September 25,1973.
2.That the City Manager is further instructed to effect a reduction
in security lighting of public buildings,a reduction of light
levels in office areas,a reduct.on of air conditioning loads,
and to instruct municipal departments to lower their heating
thermostat settings in all municioal buildings.
3.That the City Council does hereby call to the publics atten
tion the potential crises in availability of electrical energy
and requests that all citizens and businesses in the community
cooperate to effect a voluntary reduction of energy consumption.
PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED by its Mayor this 25th day of
September /1973.
