A RESOLUTION ADOPTING AN AFFIRMATIVE
ACTION POLICY OF THE CITY OF MOSES LAKE
WHEREAS, the goal of an Affirmative Action Policy is to ensure that equal
opportunity becomes a fact rather than a promise,and
WHEREAS, it is morally right to provide for equitable representation of all
protected groups in the city's work force,and
WHEREAS,effective utilization of available employee resource makes good
business sense,and
WHEREAS, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Employment
Opportunity Act of 1972 mandate Affirmative Action,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Moses Lake
that the attached Affirmative Action Policy, which establishes specific steps
to be taken to ensure that no City personnel policy or practice discriminates
against any individual on the basis of race,color,religion,sex,age,
marital status,national origin,or physical disability,unless based on a
bona fide occupational qualification,and which specifies steps to be taken
to actively promote the employment and promotional opportunities of women
and minorities is hereby adopted,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that by adopting the City's Affirmative Action Policy,
the City Council demonstrates its commitment to the philosophy and the specificity
of Affirmative Action.
PASSED by the City Council and APPROVED by its Mayor this 25th day of
May ,1976.
